Match Preview

Juventus are set to make their return to the UEFA Champions League after a year away, hosting PSV Eindhoven in Turin on Tuesday evening. The Bianconeri, two-time European champions, last won the competition in 1996 and have since experienced heartbreak in the form of seven final losses, including five in the Champions League era.

After a ban from European competition last year, Juventus missed out on the Conference League, ending an 11-year streak in the Champions League. However, after finishing third in Serie A and winning the Coppa Italia last season, they return for their 24th campaign under new head coach Thiago Motta, who replaced Max Allegri. Motta, coming off an impressive run with Bologna, has introduced youthful energy and new recruits to Juventus' squad. Despite some strong early results, Juve's recent form has stuttered with back-to-back goalless draws against Roma and Empoli.

Juventus' defense has been solid, achieving four consecutive clean sheets to start their Serie A season, which could make them a tough challenge for PSV.

PSV, meanwhile, are full of confidence after winning their first Eredivisie title since 2018, led by Peter Bosz. They make their 18th appearance in the Champions League proper, having reached the round of 16 last season before being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund. PSV have started their domestic season in superb form, winning all five of their matches while scoring 20 goals and conceding just three.

Despite PSV's dominant domestic form, their Champions League away record is less impressive, with only one win in their last 17 away matches. Key players like Luuk de Jong and Guus Til have been vital to PSV's success, but injuries to important figures such as Hirving Lozano, Rick Karsdorp, and Armando Obispo may pose challenges.

With Juventus boasting defensive solidity and PSV's attacking prowess on full display, this clash promises to be an intriguing encounter between two historic clubs.
