Match Preview
Bayern Munich are set to begin their 17th consecutive Champions League campaign on Tuesday, welcoming Dinamo Zagreb to the Allianz Arena. The German giants, six-time European champions, have been a dominant force in the competition, having qualified for the knockout stages in each of their last 16 campaigns. Their impressive record includes an unbeaten streak of 40 group-stage matches, winning 36 of them.
Under new manager Vincent Kompany, Bayern have started the season brightly, winning four consecutive matches. They come into this clash off the back of a 6-1 thrashing of Holstein Kiel, with Jamal Musiala scoring just 14 seconds in and Harry Kane netting a hat-trick. Bayern’s new-look squad, rejuvenated by Kompany, is eager to reestablish dominance after finishing third in the Bundesliga last season, their lowest finish since 2011.
Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb return to the Champions League for only the third time in eight years. Despite dominating Croatian football with seven straight league titles, Dinamo have struggled in Europe, finishing last in their Champions League group in each of their recent attempts. This season, they qualified by beating Qarabag comfortably in the playoffs. However, a recent defeat to arch-rivals Hajduk Split ended a 23-match unbeaten domestic run and saw them slip from the top of the Croatian league.
Bayern will have most of their squad available, with Leroy Sane returning from injury. Harry Kane will lead the line, supported by an array of attacking talent including Musiala, Kingsley Coman, and Serge Gnabry. Dinamo, meanwhile, will likely rely on Bruno Petkovic up front, supported by Sandro Kulenovic and midfielders Petar Sucic and Martin Baturina.
Bayern, with their formidable home form and depth of talent, will look to start the group stage with a strong performance, while Dinamo Zagreb face a daunting challenge in Munich.
