Team Previews

Manchester United will continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Scottish giants Rangers in Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils are looking to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Rosenborg in their opening pre-season fixture on Monday, a game where head coach Erik ten Hag criticized his team's performance. United's goalkeeper Radek Vitek was instrumental in keeping the score down, as Rosenborg hit the woodwork four times before scoring the winning goal late in the match.

United's pre-season schedule includes high-profile friendlies in the United States against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. They will then face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10 before starting their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 16.

In terms of transfers, United recently signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, with the latter's deal being announced on Thursday night. Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season – their worst-ever performance in the current format – United qualified for the Europa League group stage by defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final. Erik ten Hag, whose contract has been extended until June 2026, is under significant pressure to improve the team's performance in the upcoming season.

Rangers, meanwhile, began their pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to Ajax last weekend, with Tom Lawrence scoring for the Scottish side. Managed by Philippe Clement, Rangers have a busy schedule ahead, including friendlies against Birmingham City and Union Berlin before their Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts on August 3.

Last season, Rangers finished second in the Scottish Premiership, eight points behind Celtic, but they did win the Scottish League Cup and reached the last-16 stage of the Europa League. This summer, their biggest signing has been Mohamed Diomande from Nordsjaelland. Historically, Rangers and Manchester United have faced each other four times in the Champions League, with United winning three of those encounters, including a 1-0 victory in their last meeting in November 2010.
