Inter Miami returns to Chase Stadium on Wednesday following a significant defeat to an Eastern Conference rival, FC Cincinnati, where they suffered a challenging 6-1 loss. It marked their heaviest defeat in an MLS regular-season match since a 5-0 setback against the New England Revolution in 2021. Despite conceding 37 goals this season, the Cincinnati game was the first time they allowed six goals in a single league fixture.
Before this defeat, Inter Miami had been in good form, winning four consecutive matches by a 2-1 scoreline and only experiencing two losses since their elimination from the CONCACAF Champions Cup by Monterrey in April.
A victory on Wednesday would enable Inter Miami to surpass their six home victories from the previous MLS campaign. They have demonstrated resilience this year with several come-from-behind wins, although all four of their domestic losses in 2024 came when conceding the first goal.
Inter Miami boasts a perfect home record against Toronto FC, including a convincing 4-0 triumph at Chase Stadium in their last encounter in 2023.
Toronto FC, meanwhile, halted a lengthy losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. They have struggled away from home, currently enduring a seven-match winless streak across all competitions and have not secured an away league victory since late April against Orlando City.
Toronto FC has only managed two away wins in the Eastern Conference this season, tied for the second fewest, but a win on Wednesday would match their highest number of away victories in a season since 2020.
In the 2024 season, Toronto FC has secured eight MLS victories. A win against Inter Miami would equal their total number of wins from 2022. They are yet to earn a point away against Inter Miami, although one of their two road victories in 2024 came in Florida with a 2-1 win over Orlando City.
