Match Preview of Man City vs Liverpool
The Premier League resumes this weekend with a highly anticipated clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. The two teams, who finished as last season's top two, have different targets this year, with City chasing the league title and success in the Champions League and FA Cup, while Liverpool are battling to make the top four.
City go into the game on the back of six consecutive wins across all competitions, including two standout results in which they scored 7-0 and 6-0 against RB Leipzig and Burnley respectively, with Erling Braut Haaland scoring eight goals in those two games. Pep Guardiola's side will be keen to maintain their strong form before the international break.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have had a difficult season and are currently six in the table, five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, albeit with two games in hand. Jurgen Klopp's men have struggled for consistency away from home, with only 12 points from 13 Premier League matches on the road, losing seven times and failing to score on six occasions.
Both teams have injury concerns ahead of the game, with Haaland doubtful for City due to a groin injury, while Phil Foden is ruled out for two to three weeks after appendix surgery. For Liverpool, Kostas Tsimikas is doubtful after sustaining a rib injury, while several players including Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara, and Stefan Bajcetic are sidelined with injuries.
Despite Liverpool's struggles this season, they have beaten City twice in three meetings, including a 1-0 win at Anfield in October.
A win for Liverpool would not only give them a much-needed boost in their top-four aspirations, but would also see them complete only their second league double over City in the last 17 seasons.
Our Predicted Lineups
Man City possible starting lineup:Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Ake; De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan; Bernardo, Haaland, Grealish
Liverpool possible starting lineup: starting lineup:Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Elliott; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez
Who will win the match?
suggests that Manchester City are currently in good form and are expected to win against Liverpool, but it may be a close match. Liverpool will need to perform at their best and overcome their poor away form if they want to have a chance of winning or even drawing the match. Haaland's fitness is also a concern, as he is an important player for Dortmund, but it is unclear whether he will play or not. If City win, they will temporarily close the gap at the top of the Premier League table before Arsenal's match against Leeds later in the day.
